Terrible experience: Upon arrival I was brought to a room on the top floor. I quickly discovered the Wifi didn't work and called the young woman at the desk. "I'll have the repair person come up". An hour later no one had arrived. Called the desk and was told "He's not working today [!]. He'll be here tomorrow". I told her "I need internet today". She came up, verified using her own phone that there was no internet connection, and brought me to a room 2 floors below. As soon as the door was opened there was a huge stench of tobacco smoke [No Smoking Hotel]. I told her the smell is unacceptable and asked why she would choose that room. [During my entire stay I only saw 1 other guest in the hotel so there were plenty of available rooms]. She said she couldn't smell it because she's wearing a mask [!]. She put me into another room. I found that the ac was very weak. I lifted the outer cover and saw that the filters were filthy. I washed them myself after which the ac worked normally. I wear contact lenses all day. I have a pair of prescription glasses that I only use if my contact lenses are out for the night. I never wear the glasses outside. That night I watched TV in bed wearing the glasses. The next night I wanted the glasses and couldn't find them anywhere. I emptied my suitcase at least twice and went thru everything. I searched every corner of the room. They were a Michael Kors frame and had cost me about $120 USD in Thailand. I asked the desk to check with the cleaning person but nothing. The 1st time in my life I had something go missing from a hotel room. That night or the next there was no internet about 1 am. Checked the hall 1 flight above - net was working fine. So the next day asked to move up 1 flight for the sake of internet and did so. That night late or early am I had 2 phones charging, no other appliances connected, the same as I'd been doing in the previous room for 2 nights. Suddenly a loud noise and my room and the entire floor went dark. I called the desk and someone I'd never spoken to - who turned out to be the owner - came up. As soon as the elevator door opened - before he had any idea of the cause - he was saying that it was my fault, I had caused it, it is a brand new hotel, etc. He couldn't get the lights back on in the room. He opened another door on the floor for me to move to and there was an awful smell. He told me he didn't smell anything and people had been staying in that room for 2 years and no one had ever complained. He opened a different room's door and a very large cockroach emerged - the 1st time I'd seen one in a SE Asian hotel room. He wrangled it with his foot to an outside door and pushed it out. The next 2 doors had several dead very large cockroaches on the floor. So it became obvious the awful smell had been insecticide combined with high humidity in a room that hadn't been aired out and imo was not fit to have someone stay in yet. He had me move back to the room I'd moved out of the day before. The customer service with the desk could be summed up with another experience: I was bitten up at night by a mosquito in my room. I went to the desk in the morning and told the desk. She told me the housekeeper had gone home and would spray tomorrow. I told her I didn't want to get bitten again that night and if she didn't want to spray the room I would do it myself. But she didn't want to loan me the insecticide, and she didn't want to do it herself (during my stay I never saw a customer at the desk). Thus ensued a 5 minute negotiation until she finally got the can but mentioned several times I must return it. I could tell the can had about a teaspoon of solution left, but she insisted it was ok. I went up and sprayed for about 10 seconds until it ran out. I wanted to gather some things before I returned downstairs so I could proceed to go out. After I was in the room about 10 minutes the phone rang. "Is everything all right?" She was upset I hadn't returned the empty can to her yet. I had to take care of several urgent things during my 1st days in Da Nang or I would have checked out after my glasses disappeared. But now I'd had a free day to find another hotel and arranged to move in the next day. I packed, and sent an email to the hotel's email address - I thought to the owner - informing him of the missing glasses - I asked for nothing but I wanted to make sure he was aware of it. I got a reply, telling me he would like to speak to me at the hotel the next day. Turned out it wasn't the owner replying to the emails but an English speaking person from Holland who told me he takes care of the internet there and other things. (It's a family hotel so possibly son in law). He started off by saying "You changed rooms 5 times". All of the reasons for changing rooms I've described above. (He's including the 2 unacceptable rooms on arrival). He said he was disturbed by the ac having dirty filters, and acknowledged that the young women at the desk are "arrogant". He was concerned that I would write a review of my stay including mentioning the missing glasses and that was his motivation in wanting to talk in person. Despite that, and despite us having a civil low key conversation, several times he used derogatory terms to describe me when speaking to me. I asked if the owner was planning to reimburse for my glasses. He called him, then told me the owner would give me $15 (of the $120 USD), in return for me agreeing not to write an online review. I didn't want $15 in return for not writing reviews, but wanted him out of the room and didn't want to argue - just wanted to check out and planned to reject the $15 credit at the front desk. He started towards the door, but would stop after every step, and issue warnings if I took the money and then wrote a review anyway. Finally I had enough of that and told him to keep the money and if I choose to I will write reviews. That led to him standing right next to me yelling in my face "Get the [bleep] out of the hotel now", "I can write reviews also", etc. I just kept saying "OK, ok" and not raising my voice. When he finally exited, I grabbed my suitcase and checked out as I had planned to. It was such a bad experience I didn't feel like thinking about it afterwards and thus didn't post. I've now left Vietnam and won't be returning (for other reasons). But finally decided I owe it to my fellow travelers to post this, to spare them the experience.…
I just stayed one night, this place is very clean and the location is very good, rooms are huge and very good value of money, it is cheaper than hostels, it does not offer breakfast with the room rate.
Wonderful, soft beds, super clean, quiet rooms. The staff is so helpful. They helped me with bikes and directions all over town. I will stay here every time I visit Danang. Awesome place highly recommended.
