We were only able to stay for one night as the global pandemic COVID19 forced us to leave Costa Rica sooner than we would have liked. Our evening and the partial days at this retreat and home space afforded us a unique opportunity that is unlike any other (BnB) stay. Marina and Ralf are friendly, gracious, genuine and welcoming hosts. Their hospitality, generosity and helpful insights enhanced our stay experience and helped us feel connected to the Arenal area as well as significantly helping us in our navigation of the rest of Costa Rica. Our time at Refugium was educational, special, magical, insightful, peaceful, calm, tranquil, fun and truly transformational. It inspired us to want to stay and learn more about their journeys and the part of the country where they are situated. We found the accommodations to be of a great value. Where we stayed was clean, well appointed and laid out in a way that afforded us autonomy and a simultaneous connection to Marina and Ralf and their two dogs. While there we saw several different types of birds, butterflies, some horses and cows; enjoyed the scenic rolling hills; and we may have even spotted a jaguar. In the evening over the quiet rhythm of the crickets we enjoyed the dance of some fireflies. Had we not been recalled to Canada we would have begged them to let us stay for as long as they could have kept us . We hope to be able to get back to the Refugium one day soon, for it genuinely felt as though we had accessed a refuge, and we were quite heart - sad to have had to leave. Thank you, Marina and Ralf!…
