My husband and I were visiting the island of Naxos from the U.S. We read about this olive oil museum and decided to visit. It was a bit tricky to find after Google maps directed us to the village
We showed some local people the name and they directed us to it. Ireni welcomed us warmlyand did a wonderful job teaching us about the old machinery and how it was used. It was very interesting! Afterward we paid 5 euros to do the wonderful tasting, of many varieties of olive oil and olives and olive marmalade. It was all delicious! They sell all their amazing products for very reasonable prices. We bought a few of our favorite items and she wrapped them in protective paper and the placed them each in a lovely white gift bag with a darling ladybug stuck onto it! What a delightful experience! You must visit if you go to Naxos!

Stopped by for a tasting as part of our tour of the island. Very interesting location and history, and tasty olive oil and spreads. I personally loved the historical description, including how the original owner helped bring electricity to the island; some of the original generators and electrical panels are still on display.

We wanted to try an olive oil tasting while in Naxos and were delighted to discover this recently renovated, small olive mill, an easy 15 minute walk from Halki. The mill and the antique equipment pieces are the original. We just turned up and Rena welcomed us and gave us the short tour and explained the history.
Shortly after, a large group of 10 came in and she accommodated all of us.
For the tasting, she cut small chunks of bread and we tasted a selection of olives oil. All different. And all with interesting explanations. The last taste was olive oil cake. Delish.
There is no charge for this but everybody bought something. The oil I chose came in three sizes. I bought one small bottle for €4 and a medium 0.25l bottle for €7 which was surprisingly cheap I thought for the quality! They also had some little gift sets and olive oil soap.
After the group of ten left, we noticed a small courtyard outside so bought two beers and a coke and sat talking to Rena for well over half an hour as she answered all our questions about olive and olive farming. It was fascinating and time well spent and we were all so glad we visited.
Thank you again for everything Rena. Your kindness was lovely. And we were all so glad we visited.

We took the bus about 30 minutes from Charo out to Chalki, located in the interior of Naxos. The small town was so quiet and peaceful, and we wandered freely amongst the olive groves, pastures and ocassional herds of goats and sheep. In a tiny hamlet a mile or so from Chalki we came across the Olive Mill, Ergostasio in Kaloxylos and wandered in to ask directions and were glad we did.
Irina offered a very brief tour of the informative displays which included the first electric generator on Naxos as well as various pieces of antique equipment used for olive oil extraction. We then sampled a variety of different oils and locally made condiments all offered free of charge.
Irina is a native of Kaloxylos who moved back to Naxos a few years ago with her husband.
We left feeling we had experienced a bit of the local life and lore of Kaloxylos and we spent a lovely time with Irina. It was memorable to say the least.
I would encourage other travelers visiting Naxos to take the short bus ride out to Chalki and find their way up the path to Kaloxylos and Ergostasio.
I only wish we could have explored the area and hiking paths further.
It was an excellent way to spend half a day while on the lovely Isle of Naxos.

What a great afternoon tour with olive oil tasting as well as olives a nd additonal appetizers. We toured the Olive Mill and then engaged in a tasting. Exquisite flavors! Liked the history as well as the olive oil experience!

Very interesting olive mill. We got a great insight into the recent economic and social history of Naxos and were able to taste various olive oils. A very friendly woman gave us a private tour - free of charge. The place is not very well known yet, we were almost alone there - a walk in the town is also recommended, we were almost alone there. The olive mill is absolutely recommended👍

What a magical place!! Off the beaten path in the beautiful village of Kaloxilos, on Naxos island. The husband-wife owners are so passionate and welcoming. The place is a gem of history - a former Villandros family-owned tower (perhaps) that served as an Olive Oil press/mill starting in the 19th century, until 1985. The fantastic Belgian diesel engine and generator still on premises apparently powered not only the location but also entire communities well before government electricity arrived in 1936! The manual oil press together with its appurtenances and the goat-hair blanket filters to filter out dirt etc, were simply fascinating. The fact that the present owners have preserved these ancient artifacts of history - they plan to interview surviving employees so that an oral history too is preserved - is a testament to their passion and love for these rugged, native lands. The tour of the museum was topped off by a tasting of fantastic locally produced non-flavored/extra virgin as well as flavored Olive Oils and home-made Tapenades! The home-made Orange pie (a local delicacy) was the piece de resistance! Lovely owner, magical place, a must-visit! Please take the time to do so, buy their products, support a local family and its noble attempt to preserve the history and culture of the area. You won’t be disappointed! Thank
