The best day with the best guide! We are so glad we decided to book this trip! We had a wonderful time exploring the island & also learning its rich history by the experianced guide ( i believe her name was Duska)!!! If you are in Kefalonia you must to this excursion!

Overall the trip was very enjoyable and provided a great day trip experience to Ithaca, particularly the boat trip. Seeing the Ionian islands and coast from the sea is the most magical way to experience the Ionian islands and coast. Unless you can afford a private yacht or tour, this tour is best way to see it all. It would have been nice to spend a little longer at the Vathy, Kioni and/or Frickes as there was only just enough time for breakfast and lunch respectively but I appreciate there is a lot to see. Our tour was booked through Tui which perhaps influenced the agenda.
Positives - a highlights day trip that squeezed as much as possible into a day around ferry times. If you want a more leisurely tour, you'll need to stay over and book things independently. Ithaca offers wonderful scenery, history, food and typical friendly Ionian hospitality.
Neutrals - the trip is limited to ferry times therefore, accepting Greek food service is never a rushed experience, you have little time for sight seeing in any of the stops if you also need refreshments (which given the very early start) is most needed. Our pickup specifically said it would pick us up at the hotel (like any other trip I've taken from that hotel), but the driver stopped on the road at the entrance - we only knew this due to seeing its headlights in the dark at that time of the morning and had to walk up the drive to be greeted by someone grumpy at having kept him waiting. Lastly the boat trip, whilst wonderful, be aware that if you want to change below deck to go swimming, everyone can see you through the windows on deck.
Ferry Crossing - Beware of Ionian Ferry refreshment service. When I came to pay for two coffees, a euro had been added on to each drink. I challenged the server and pointed out the price list on the wall and what it should cost. To his much annoyance he said he had been mistaken but I wonder how many other customers had been over-charged?
Negatives - the tour guide was very pleasant but it felt that she did not know the island or tour very well despite saying she had only been there the week before. The guide read off a script and added very little to the narrative or experience and for 2 miles of one stretch of the tour was dedicated to promoting the Tui preferred restaurant that we were encouraged to eat lunch at. Much of the tour stops makes reference to the mythical history of Odysseus - its been some years since I last picked up my Greek Classics and so much of the context of the narrative was lost until the very end of the journey when the guide seemed to remember to tell us the story of Odysseys. It would have been better at the start. Beyond the script, the guide didn't really explain any detail and apart from making sure we were all on the coach, the information could have been on a print out. Whilst very pleasant, the guide didn't stop to check if people could even hear - at Kioni we were quickly marched through the town from the boat to the coach. We stopped at a map but due to the passing mopeds and cars, we couldn't hear much of what was said - the guide seemed keen to get us to our lunch stop. Other information was given but not beyond what it said on the script. I had more questions than time to ask.
Had our guide been more enthusiastic and knowledgeable, I would have rated the trip higher.

It's odd that our guide wasn't as informative as you wish because we had never had an issue and all of our guides are very informative and enthusiastic at each excursion they take part in. Nevertheless, we will investigate and ensure it never happens in the feature!

I booked online the day before the tour. I noticed that there was no option for pick up in my resort so I emailed the company and they gave me a location so I put that into my reservation though I think I could have just specified my hotel and resort and that would have been the pick up.

On the day my pick up was a little early but I know he would have waited as that’s what happened with another couple on our pick up. We were driven from our local area to the main pick up point In Argostoli.
Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and we visited a local food shop to taste oil and honey, a monastery, the Robola winery, Drogarati cave, Melissani cave, Fiskardo, and Myrtos beach.
The day began at 8.50 and ended at 6.30 with drop off at my hotel. The roads are twisty. The longest period you are on the coach without a stop is one hour.
It was a great way to see the island and learn about it.

The crew and ship were good. Only complaint is the ramp they used to disembark to the beach was very dangerous!! It was an old skinny ladder with plywood on it, broken wood slats and no handrails. I had to help many passengers up and down, as it wobbled and flexed. Very steep decline from shop to shore. Someone will definitely get hurt!!!!

We appreciate your concern regarding the ladder but just for your information we add a new leader every season and as we are towards the end of the summer reason it's understandable that the ladder needs to be replaced! This is by far the best tour I have been on in Kefalonia. We were picked up by the Tour Bus outside of our hotel in Skala. We then had a couple of stops along the way which took around 45 minutes to an hour, with outstanding scenery along the way. Once everybody was onboard, we headed to Drogarati Caves which cost €5 on entry. This took around 15 minutes, however there was a cafe, ice cream shop and gift shop there for those who decided not to go in or needed a coffee/beer break. The next stop was Melissani Caves, where you got onto a small boat with around 10 others, we were sailed around the caves with the opportunity to take as many photos as we wanted to. This was an amazing experience. We then headed to Agia Effimia and had 45 minutes to have a look around the port, grab some food and have a drink. The scenery here was outstanding and well worth the trip. We then headed to Fiskardo, where we had an hour and 45 minutes to relax. Fiskardo was another beautiful place to visit with a number of tavernas, bars, gift shops, clothes shops and ice cream stands. The harbour there is incredible with many picturesque areas. The next stop on the way back was Myrtos Beach, the most outstanding view point in Kefalonia in my opinion. This was a photo opportunity as the beach is a long way down. The tour guide was extremely knowledgable and friendly, we had Katarina but I’m sure there are others. Herself and our driver Pavros could not have done more for us on our trip, offering toilet breaks, drink breaks, photo opportunities and much more. So many facts about the island were shared during the coach ride which made it even better along with the scenery out of the window. All in all it took 10-11 hours (if you’re on the Skala/Poros/Katelios side). I would 10000% recommend!
