겨울이라 사람도 별로 없고 참 좋은 곳이라 생각합니다.. 바로 앞에 가면 썬쎗도 볼 수 있는 명당입니다. 단, 겨울이라 피라에서 버스를 이용하려면 시간을 잘 맞추어 이동해야 할것 같군요.

A large banner announces the ongoing exhibit of works by French born artist Roger Torte. Still, it's not hard to walk right by as you are mesmerized by the view in the other direction. The entrance also doubles as the outdoor seating area for Volkan Pizza so it can be confusing.
According to the bio included in the exhibit the artist moved to Athens before the outbreak of World War II and lived in Greece until his death in 1972. The pieces include watercolor scenes of all the major Cycladic Islands along with maps made by the artist. The scenes show the Greek Islands before they became a tourist destination. The artist was an architect by training and his attention to detail is evident in the work.
A great escape on a hot day for anyone visiting Fira but especially lovers of art and the Greek Islands.

We happened upon this art exhibit by accident as we walked around Santorini. I could not believe that the exhibition was not packed! We spent a wonderful hour there, enjoying the works of J.R. Tourte, a talented watercolour artist who captured the essence of the Cyclades Isles. Not to be missed!
I encourage tour guides to recommend this. Proper marketing was not done and it is a shame that this exhibit is not getting the recognition it deserves.

Roger Tourte first visited Greece in the 1920’s and he finally settled in Athens, shortly before the beginning of World War II. He began to paint ceaselessly every corner of Greece, the place that inspired him with its light, the sun and the sky and the sea with its countless islands. All he painted, with that characteristic blue and white which he was able to render true to the atmosphere of the place. In this his paintings are unique.
The exhibition aims to pay a minimum of tribute to Roger Tourte, this exceptional person and great artist who "lived", in all its significance, the beauty of the Greek landscape with infinite love, the beauty that has begun to disappear, victim of "culture" and "tourism development".

I have two apparent card prints/with envelopes by Roger Tourte that I cannot seem to find anywhere. One is a beautiful color print of Athenes- Parthenon, about approximately 8x5.5 inches in size. The other is of Athenes-L'Erechteion, about 10.5 x 7 inches. Appear to be in excellent condition. Could they be of value?
