Great view of Mississippi River from site 29. The attached historical park was very interesting. There was no camp host to ask questions. Park itself was clean laundry & rest rooms. The BIGGEST drawback is that there was very very spotty cel & TV reception. There at the end of Oct first part of Nov. Be careful on the roads which were covered with leaves - several trucks drove off the road

On Monday, September 27th, until Friday, October 1st, my wife and I spent a very relaxing time at Columbus-Belmont State Park. Not only was the park itself beautiful—but Cinda, the campground hostess, was by far the best hostess we have ever had in our many years of camping.
Cinda was present whenever we needed her. She would willingly drive her golf cart and wagon to get us firewood or ice without once complaining. She was always cheerful, smiling, and happy to talk about the Park and the historical area.
We consider Columbus-Belmont State Park to be our favorite campground—well worth driving all the way from Colorado, where we live—and consider it especially so now that Cinda is the hostess. We look forward to returning there!

This beautiful park is on bluffs above the Mississippi and was the site of the attempt by the Confederate Army to prevent the Union Army from progressing farther south on the river. There are many sites with explanatory signs and great views of the river. The snack bar has corn dogs with homemade cornbread and reportedly good ice cream, also. There's a small gift shop and museum, which we did not visit. In addition to playing a important part in the Civil War, this area was crossed by the Indigenous peoples on the Trail of Tears, during which 1000's of Natives were marched from the SE United States to Oklahoma. There were thousands of deaths. A group of about 1000 was assigned the route that crossed the River near Columbus Belmont. If you camp, there's a wonderful campground that's part of the park.

Spent the day at this great state park. My husband remembered visiting this park when he was a kid so we went looking for the “chain across the Mississippi “. So much history in one place. The park is beautiful with so much to see and do. The view of the Mississippi River is fabulous !!! The history museum was a great treat!!

This was a great trip as we camped along with family. It was only the second day it was open due to the COVID issues going on. We had site 32 and 33, better sites are 23 to 28, river view! Grounds were well kept, museum was nice and informative. Snack bar had good ice cream and shakes!
Camp host was helpful also.
The only drawback for us were the mosquitoes! Even with bug spray on us and citronella torches burning they ate us alive!
We’d go back though!

This small state park is very clean and offers lots to do. We didn't explore the camping area because it was closed due to COVID-19. It's the first thing you pass as you enter the park. There's a conference center which was also closed. We drove to the main parking area close to the Mississippi River overlooks. There are several pavillions, the largest one has a fireplace in the middle of it. The museum was closed but we explored the grounds. Put-put golf was closed as well. There are lots of intact earthworks from the Civil War when it was briefly held by the Rebels. A easy to walk trail wanders through the earthworks. There is a large cannon on display that was used there in 1861 and recovered after the war. Also a huge chain and anchor the Rebels used to pull across the Mississippi River in attempt to ensnare Union gunboats during the Battle of Belmont (Missouri) which was on the opposite side of the river. There are lots of nice picnic tables, benches and places to view the river. Lots of trees which shade the park nicely. Because we visited during the Coronavirus pandemic, we didn't get to experience everything here but it was a lovely place to spend and we mostly had the park to ourselves.

We took a bike ride thru this part of Kentucky. We decided to stop by this park. It has amazing views, and is well worth visiting.

We stayed here three nights in the campground, and despite the rain, we really enjoyed ourselves. The view from the back campsites is simply breathtaking, so peaceful. The campground and park are extremely well-kept. The bathrooms were always very clean, and the lawn was perfectly manicured. We enjoyed the small museum and our guide. The history was interesting and involves learning about the Civil War, The Trail of Years, and African American history. Our kids enjoyed it. We went to the snack bar and had delicious ice cream. The museum and the rest of the park are within walking distance of the campground, which was nice. As other reviewers have noted, WiFi is not good here, so you will need to look up all you can well before you head here. There is a small grocery store will a grill and pizza in Columbus where you can stock up, if needed. All in all, we loved this peaceful slice of Kentucky Heaven and will return!

In the middle of nowhere! Well kept park and campground. If you need to search for things to do and places nearby, do it about 30 miles out, cell service is minimal, internet is almost non existent! Nice museum on the property, snack bar. Nearly all of the campsites are sloped a little more than they should, but that may have been done to preserve the very old trees on site.

Went here on my most recent Civil War tour. Planned to just look around a bit and have lunch, and that worked out perfectly. There are a few signs and plaques to tell you about the story, and the original anchor and some of the chain are out in the open. Park is lovely, with a big playground, plenty of shade trees, benches, picnic tables, and great views of the river from the high bluffs. It looks like there is even a snack shack and mini golf there now as well.

You may not be allowed to go into the museum, but anything that's outdoors should be fine. It's a state park and most all of these are very pet friendly.
Are there any public swimming pools,or water parks near by?

There is a water park about an hour and 15 minutes away in Eddyville, Ky. Discovery park of America is 35 minutes away in Union City, Tn. Check them out on trip advisor too.

No entry fee, though there is a charge to tour the museum.
