Indian Creek and Eye of the Needle

Heed the warnings. This is a physically exhausting hike. There are so many waterfalls and cliffs and rock formations. It literally looks like the land that time forgot. The Indian Creek trail is great on its own but for those not afraid of heights or a little danger you can climb the ropes, crawl through the tunnel, hug the cliffs (150 ft drop) and make your way to the Eye of the Needle formation. Unbelievably beautiful and no pictures do it justice. Be smart and make good choices and you’ll love every exhausting minute

Indian Creek is a hidden gem. Unique features, waterfalls, Arkansas Cave (one name), Eye of the Needle (if you make it that far) that requires a tricky edging along a very narrow ledge that leads to a tunnel that takes you to the Eye. Not for everyone and not for small children. I have been many times over the past 20 years and I always find something new to see.

The highlight of the trail is Tunnel Falls, a 31-foot high waterfall that pours out from a cave.The trail back to Indian Creek is not an official trail -- but it is pretty well traveled, and runs right along Indian Creek, so it's fairly easy to follow and almost impossible to get lost on. Just follow the creek.

To get to the trail, head out on the Buffalo River Trail out of Kyle's Landing and head toward Steele Creek. After a stretch you'll see a sign that points you toward Indian Creek. At that point, you are no longer on a maintained trail.

Some of this trail is not okay for small kids and dogs/horses. Beautiful scenery. The road to Kyle's Landing is not very good.

Not a Marked Trail-Beautiful Scenery

First of all, this is not an "official" trail. It is a social trail. If you look for signs and trail heads, you will waste a lot of time. We took the trail head at Kyle's Landing to the "Indian Creek" signs. We made 2 big left turns from there. Once we hit the river, you can travel the trail on either side of the river. Please be advised that you will either be getting wet from the knees down, or you will be scaling bluffs hundreds of feet above the river (it was very dangerous and slippery from mud, rock, and rain when we went). There is no in-between. I would definitely NOT take children on this hike as it can get dangerous in many places. However, the pay-off is well worth the risk involved. We scaled bluffs, crossed the river many times (very swift) up to our knees, crossed over a deep part once by balancing on a log across the river, shimmied 50 ft sections across a slippery ledge that was only a few inches wide and had nothing to hold, spend much of the trail on the ledge of a bluff full of very slippery mud and rock....it was an adventure! We took this trail the day after a huge storm system came through, so the water was up and flowing powerfully. I would definitely recommend using trekking poles as well, because they can help you keep your balance when crossing the river. When you reach the end, there is a waterfall coming through a cave and you can use ropes to climb to "The Eye of the Needle". It's like a whole new world. If you are willing to risk it, you will be amazed at the scenery you will happen upon.

A hidden treasure just off the Buffalo National River, Indian Creek's mossy waterfalls and karst canyon ... When to go: Summer brings ticks and snakes, so hike after the first freeze through April. ... From Jasper, take AR 7 north .3 mile to AR 74.

Great Place to hike loved it Indian Creek Trail is a 4.7 mile lightly trafficked out and back trail located near Jasper, AR that features a waterfall and is rated as difficult.... ... This was an amazing hike, but you need to be in at least some kind of shape before beginning this
