Had a really great time at the centre. We did a tour and the staff member was super knowledgeable about all the animals. We got to see lots of birds and learn about the the program. There’s also the chance to feed some of the animals which was great fun. The centre also has other animals such as dingoes and kangaroos.

What a fantastic place to visit! You get to see an endangered species up close. The birds are friendly, and the people running the place are amazing as well. It's a must see.

We visited for a private Black cockatoo experience and it was money well spent. Money goes to care and rehabilitation of the birds. Our guide was very friendly and informative. Learnt new things about black cockatoos and had an incredible time hand feeding and observing them. To have them come sit on your shoulder and feed them was amazing - definitely would recommend. I’d do this again for sure!

I had previously donated to Kaarakin many months ago simply after seeing on television how the birds in care were treated, cared for and if possible repatriated. After finding out I was travelling to the west coast I chanced my luck at a small tour, my wife (who WAS NOT a bird lover) and I were not disappointed. Sam and James (and other volunteers) showed us around and passionately explained everything we needed to know. We were told certain areas were (rightfully) off limits to assist with wild rehab etc. But we did luckily interact with some birds in what was an amazing experience for us both, my wife even acquiring a friendly suitor. Dingo's, kangaroos, emus etc are also scattered around the grounds , as remaining tenants from the previous Park here. This place is closed generally to the public for a reason, what this park is doing to assist the Black Cockatoo for the WA (and eastern states as they have some yellow tails) is amazing. Their corporate sponsors should be applauded and more public sponsors should be brought in to to assist these passionate volunteers who work here daily. Highly recommend a visit to anyone who has a love for any Australian parrot, but strongly suggest you reach into your pockets first, you will not be disappointed. I could only give 5 points because 10 did not exist.

Not only do you get an opportunity to interact with these magnificent endangered birds but there are also alpine dingos to pat, wallabies, kangaroos & Casanova, the amorous emu who like anything with two legs !
You need to book a time as you will be escorted by a knowledgeable volunteer. We booked online from QLD for a party of 4 & "donated" for the opportunity. The finale is to enter a cage with gumnuts & experience a cockatoo deftly dismantle the nut whilst perched on your shoulder, glad they do not like ears! As I said this is a community project with zero government support, maybe they could now spare some GST $$ ? Ironically all these birds belong to the State of WA, and releases have to be adjudicated by Parks & Wildlife who do absolutely nothing for the project.
So, get a small group together & drive up into the hills for a wonderful visit, after which you can have a picnic lunch at Araluen Gardens, a wonderful educational day out.

We booked a tour online from QLD for a donation as the centre is not generally open to the public.
We were escorted around the centre which also houses alpine dingoes which you can interact with, Casanova the amorous emu who wants to interact if you have two legs!!, wallabies & of course the cockatoos. The highlight is to enter cage suitably carrying gum nuts whilst the bird munches them to pieces right next to your ear, they are amazingly lightweight & fortunately not interested in ears. Why not get a small group together for a tour & support this worthy cause as it receives no government help. Ironically, the Dept of Parks & Wildlife have to monitor their release programme & pronounce if the birds are ready even though they contribute zilch. Now WA can use some of the GST $ for a good cause ???.
