Cannot give them enough stars! An excellent experience. My father, son and I spent a few days on the island and we did pottery, horseback riding, and cooking with Marika. Every experience was amazing and Marika and her family are so kind and welcoming. Anyone staying on Limnos I highly recommend you to do the experiences, we wish we could have tried them all but next time. Pezoula Cafe is really good too!

As soon as Alexandros picked us up from the airport, I knew we were in good hands ~ after spending 2 days with Alexandros and his mother, it felt like we were family. Our cooking class with Mama Marika (Alexadros’ mother) was beyond compare. We prepared a traditional Greek Sunday dinner with all fresh and local ingredients - most from Mama Marika’s garden and her husband Christos’ farm. We shared this beautiful meal with her family and enjoyed learning about their life on the Island of Lemnos. We were even able to attend a traditional Greek dance recital.
I came to the Island in search of family and Mama Marika was able to connect me with my cousins living in the village of Thanos. She went above and beyond to coordinate a meeting, making a lifelong dream of mine come true. She is truly a wonderful woman and is a great example of the generosity and kindness of the Greek people. My family is already thinking about a return trip and Mama Marika and Alexandros are much of the reason that we want to return!!

Alexandros and Mama Marika are the most wonderful hostes you could hope for. When Alex picked us up from the airport we knew right away this would be a special trip because he seemed to know everyone. The next morning Alex picked us up for a cooking class that took place in his mother's home kitchen! Mama Marika was an excellent teacher and we all learned about traditional limnos foods. Then Marika even found long lost relatives from my wife's family and drove us across the island to meet them. These are the warmest, kindest and caring people you could hope for. We now consider Alex, Marika and Christos as extended members of our family!

Alexandros and his team are real experts in what they do! Lemnos is one of the tastier islands in the Aegean region, and when travelling there, Taste Lemnos tours are the best way to experience it!

Our Prinsendam cruise called on the lovely port of Myrina on the Island of Lemnos (Limnos). Our group leader Jodie under the careful eye of Bear led our group of 8 to the meeting spot for our tour with “Taste of Lemnos”. Alexandros is a warm and friendly man that welcomed us with open arms and big smiles to his island that the ancient myths saythe fire god Hephaestus fell when Zeus hurled him headlong out of Olympus.
Alex pointed to the castle on top of the hill, with deer running around free, is flanked by two seaside neighborhoods – the Romeiko (Greek) and the Turkiko (Turkish) Yialo (shore). Rhodes donated the Fallow deer of the Dama dama species to Lemnos in the 70s.
We enjoyed our scenic ride along the roads in a clean, comfortable air conditioned van. Our first stop was the Windmills on the edge of the Kontias village that have been carefully restored and repurposed for modern day use. The wine barrows turned into picnic tables with lanterns is a warming touch. Our next stop was the Portianos Military Cemetery from WWI, a very somber reminder of those from other lands who gave their all.
At the house of Alexandros parents, we saw some of the bounty of squash, melons, tomatoes, bell peppers and onions from his father’s garden a couple of blocks away. Inside the immaculately clean house, we were introduced to his mother and her friend who had come to help. They first demonstrated the proper way to cut up papa’s homemade cheese from his goats and sheep. When we asked if his father would miss the cheese Alexandros like a typical gleeful son showed us his father’s stockpile of cheese proclaiming papa would not even miss it. Next we were given some cheese filled pastries to relax while we dawned our “Taste of Lemnos” aprons for our cooking lessons. Mama showed us how to rollout the dough. She offered the men a chance to use the roller but they were all busy with cameras or finishing their pastry. A couple of wives tried their hand before mama finished the process. With the dough spread across the table she spooned the creamy cheese with herbs and spices filling onto a small section of the dough, cut the dough and rolled it over the filling. Mama skillfully turned one end clockwise while turning the other counterclockwise making a double spiral. The wives that tried were gleefully proud of their single clockwise spirals. The secret for good traditional Greek Pie is lots and lots of olive oil. They taste great when eaten with Papa’s wild honey.
Yemista (Papa’s Greek Stuffed Tomatoes and Bell Peppers) was our group project where the husbands perfectly placed the tops on the tomatoes and bell peppers.
While those are in the oven, we went to Mr Parascos’ local Tsipouro distillery “Kacavi”. Tsipouro is, an exact blend of pressed grapes, herbs and berries, one of Greece’s most popular alcoholic drinks. Tourists call it Ouzo, Greeks say Tsipouro. We were treated to a royal spread of local Greek appetizers to complete this great Tsipouro.
Back at Papa’s house, we savored our fresh Yemista and Greek Pie enhanced by Papa’s Greek beer on his back porch overlooking papa’s pomegranates and mama’s flowers. Why do Papas always have plenty of beer to share with their son’s friends?
It was with the sadness of leaving one’s relatives that took us back to the ship.
Our superb day with Alexandros gave us a true rewarding Taste of Lemnos.

Alex was a very enthusiastic & informative guide.
The whole tour took nearly six hours & included some yummy food.
It started with a cheese making demonstration with Rena & her husband showing us around their olive plantation, then followed by a light lunch & a taste from the still of some tsiporos ( rocket fuel ) in a charming old house & then finished up with a very informative wine tasting back at Alex's bistro/wine bar.
A great day had by all!

Our cruise was going to the port of Myrina on the Island of Lemnos , well what should we do ???? I found out our cruise friend Jodie had found the perfect thing to do so we asked to join her for a " Taste of Lemnos " After a beautiful scenic ride on this wonderful Island complete with a few photo stops at the windmills and a stop at the WWI cemetery we arrived in Moudros . Alexandros invited us into his parents family home where his mama and a friend welcomed us , a small group of 8 , and we all (the ladies ) started preparing some Greek dishes made with beautiful fresh homegrown vegetables and cheeses from dad's farm . After we had made the dishes ready for the oven Alex took us to a small local distillery where the owner welcomed us with a table full of appetizers , explained the process of making the local liquors and of coarse gave us some to taste , we even bought some for later . Fantastic and very friendly people and a great start to the spread that Alex's Mama had ready for us when we returned to his home .
A wonderful and delicious time was had by all . Alex has started this very hospitable gastronomic business a few short years ago as a young ambitious start up . He is the perfect person for this kind of business . We had a wonderful day and wish Alexandros all the best and our love to his family who looked after us so well ! Thank you !

Alexandros met our group of 8 at the Myrina port. He immediately made us feel like friends and showed us the island he loves. We enjoyed seeing the old windmills, small villages and interesting landscapes. We were moved by a stop at the well maintained Portianos Military Cemetery from WWI. The highlight was our time with Alexandros and his mother for a cooking class. All of the produce was grown by his family. They even made their own cheese from their herd of goats and sheep. We had so much fun helping mama. Of course, the best part was the eating. Delicious!!
We were also taken to a local distillery and were shown the process for making tsipouro. It's an alcohol made from the leftover grape skins from wine making. Mr Parascos, the owner, also had set out a wonderful spread of local food. Needless to say, we were very happy and full by the end of the tour. Alexandro had us back to the port on time and we all had to give him extra hugs before saying good bye.

We spent 8 days on Lemnos and were struck by the vast panoramic stretches of agricultural land in the island's interior. Surely, we thought, there must be a way to taste the local produce ... we had the luck of staying near Moudros and discovered the unique lovely café of Pezoula, run by Alexandros and his family. After a friendly chat, we were invited that same evening to a tasting of local wines and cheese. Alexandros and Guido (the latter, a young italian graduating from the reknown University of Gastronomic Sciences in Turin) received us in a wonderful intimate setting and walked us though several of the local wines (from bubbly to dessert) paired with a few varieties of local cheese. The experience was unique in revealing many of the island inhabitant's secrets in making and preserving food, a bit of a journey into the past, while unravelling the fertile potential of the island's winemakers and cheese producers. The event was extremely enjoyable and enriching and we would by all means recommend it. We happily walked away with two wheels of Melichloro cheese (produced by Alexandros' family) and a good bottle of the local muscat to enjoy once (sadly) away from that lazy and happy island ;-) Thumbs up to Alexandros and Guido for organising the event and to all those at Taste Lemnos for making our experience unique, proving that there is a lot more to Lemnos apart the beautiful beaches. Federico & Kleopatra.
