“Expensive sandals”

Αυτό το κατάστημα είναι γνωστό λόγω των «διάσημων πελατών του. Αλλά, κατά τη γνώμη μου, οι τιμές είναι εξαιρετικά υψηλές σε σύγκριση με τα πολύ καλής ποιότητας δερμάτινα σανδάλια που παράγονται στην Αλικαρνασσό της Τουρκίας.

Μόλις μόλις ανακαλύψαμε αυτό το κατάστημα λίγο πριν φύγουμε για την Αθήνα, αλλά ήμουν αποφασισμένος να πάω. Ήθελα ένα προσιτό "αναμνηστικό" να φέρει στο σπίτι. Για 65 ευρώ πήρα ένα ημι-έθιμο ζευγάρι σανδάλια που μου αρέσει. Το κατάστημα είναι πολύ μικρό αλλά μετακινούνται σε μεγαλύτερο χώρο πλησιέστερα στην Ακρόπολη. Την πρώτη φορά που προσπαθήσαμε να βρούμε το κατάστημα που χάσαμε και δεν θα είχε σημασία ούτως ή άλλως επειδή έκλεισαν τις Κυριακές. Μακάρι να είχαμε πάει εκεί όταν φτάσαμε για πρώτη φορά στην Αθήνα γιατί με ένα εβδομαδιαίο χρόνο θα μπορούσα να είχα καταφέρει να βάλω τα σανδάλια μου πιο εξατομικευμένα. (Και ίσως περισσότερο από ένα ζευγάρι.) Γύρισαμε λοιπόν στο κατάστημα και μας έδωσαν έναν κατάλογο που αναφέρει τα διαθέσιμα στυλ που επιλέγετε και δίνετε το μέγεθός σας. Ένας εργαζόμενος επιστρέφει με ένα ζευγάρι σόλες που θα ταιριάζουν με αυτό το σχέδιο και θα κάνουν κάποιες μετρήσεις. Δοκίμασα μερικά ζευγάρια και στη συνέχεια θυμήθηκα ότι είχαμε περπατήσει από το νέο κατάστημα που έχει ήδη ένα παράθυρο οθόνη έτσι κατέληξα με ένα ζευγάρι που δεν είχα καν θεωρήσει ακόμη. Πήγα με το "Jeremy Irons" γιατί ρώτησα αν μπορούσε να προστεθεί λουλούδι στο βρόχο των ποδιών και του είπαν ναι. Είχα δει τα λουλούδια στο άλλο παράθυρο. Μας είπαν να επιστρέψουμε την επόμενη μέρα το μεσημέρι. Εδώ πήραμε λίγο απογοητευτικό. Φτάσαμε λίγο πριν το μεσημέρι και η πύλη ασφαλείας ήταν κάτω με ένα σημάδι που διάβαζε το κατάστημα ήταν πολύ γεμάτο και να επιστρέψει στις 1 μ.μ. Νομίζω ότι οι διορισμοί πρέπει να τιμηθούν. Πήραμε τελικά στο κατάστημα και μια γυναίκα προσπαθούσε να διαπραγματευτεί για να πάρει τα σανδάλια της την ημέρα εκείνη αφού της είπαν ότι θα πάρουν ένα μήνα. Ήθελε να σταματήσει η δουλειά για τα σανδάλια όλων των άλλων επειδή εκείνη την ημέρα έφευγε από την Αθήνα. Πάρα πολύ κακή αδελφή! Όλοι πρέπει να περιμένουν τη σειρά τους και ήμουν ευτυχής που τα σανδάλια μου δεν πρόκειται να καθυστερηθούν περαιτέρω. Μετά από ό, τι έμοιαζε για πάντα, τα σανδάλια μου έβγαιναν και έμοιαζαν ακριβώς τα ίδια με αυτά που είχαν την προηγούμενη μέρα, πράγμα που σήμαινε ότι οι ιμάντες δεν είχαν συνδεθεί. Ήταν ακόμα μόνο το μοναδικό. Ακούστε το πρόσωπο ξανά. Μετρήσεις που ελήφθησαν, συγκολλημένοι ιμάντες. Ένα άλλο εξάρτημα για άνεση και μέτρηση του βρόχου toe για τοποθέτηση λουλουδιών. Μετά από αυτό όλα ήταν καρφωμένα στα πέλματα και ήμουν καλός για να πάω. Μεγάλο χαμόγελο! Ξέρω ότι άλλοι έχουν παραπονεθεί για τα νύχια, την άνεση, οτιδήποτε άλλο. Το ορυχείο είναι τέλειο. Λατρεύω αυτά τα σανδάλια. Είναι πραγματικά ένα μοναδικό και προσωπικό στοιχείο από το ταξίδι μας. Θέλω περισσότερα! Μπράβο!

Το Θησείο, έχει πάρει την ονομασία του από το έξοχα διατηρημένο Θησείο (τον αρχαίο ναό του Ηφαίστου), και διαθέτει ένα μικρό δασικό πάρκο και μερικούς λιγότερο πολυσύχναστους δρόμους, όπου ο επισκέπτης μπορεί να βρει πολλά ήσυχα μέρη για διαμονή και φαγητό. Το μεγαλύτερο κομμάτι της οδού Αποστόλου Παύλου έχει πεζοδρομηθεί και καθώς ενώνει την Ακρόπολη με το άλσος του λόφου του Φιλοπάππου είναι ιδανική για περίπατο, προσφέροντας απολαυστικές πανοραμικές εικόνες της πόλης μέχρι που ενώνεται με την οδό Διονυσίου Αρεοπαγίτου. Εκείνη με τη σειρά της μας οδηγεί στην ανερχόμενη περιοχή Μακρυγιάννη, στο κέντρο της οποίας δεσπόζει το μεγαλοπρεπές νέο μουσείο της Ακρόπολης. Απέναντι από το μουσείο βρίσκεται η νότια είσοδος της Ακρόπολης, ενώ ο ομώνυμος σταθμός του μετρό βρίσκεται ακριβώς δίπλα, στην κορυφή της οδού Μακρυγιάννη, άλλη μία διαδρομή με τουριστικά καφέ και εστιατόρια.

Great sandals and wonderful show

Love my sandals!!! While the poet did not make them, he was in the shop. The entire process is fun to watch. Granted, the sa dals acre not 100% custom made for you. The leather soles are pre cut and trimmed as necessary. Probably paid a premium of 20 - 30% for my sa dals from other sandal makers in Athens, but would not gotten a signed copy of poems.

A treasured experience for bespoke sandals!

The shop has a unique feel. The moment you enter, you see the eclectic art and the presence of Melissinos is felt through the entire room. It’s pretty amazing considering the process they have customers go through from helping the customer find a design they like, measuring their feet for the right size, adjusting straps according to personal preferences, hammering the shoes in front of you, adding holes for your feet’s length, and the final touches that make this a custom product.

Yes, this does take some time and the shop was packed when we arrived. However, Athens was not built in one day! There’s a precious little dog, Poi Poi, who will help time pass. I treasure this experience and my custom sandals. I also receive advise on how to take care of the sandals, as well as the magazine which shows the many famous people who’ve been to his shop and a bag for the sandals. I will be back again in the future!

My Favorite Sandals Ever - A must have

Let me tell you what to expect when you visit The Poet Sandal Maker. Emphasis on MAKER. This shop is an artists shop. ONE of his arts is sandal making with leather. If you want a leather sandal. Pay the ~100 euros and get a beautiful, unique, comfortable, and lasting pair from here as opposed to the Payless of Greece that is everywhere. This shop is popular for many reasons, particularly the sandals sell themselves. They size the sandal to your foot right then and there and then finish making it. SO you often have to let it dry and seal for a day or two before wearing them. I LOVE this shop. They are so kind, and yes busy, but very attentive and welcoming. They make sure what they do is done right. But if you want 5 minutes in a shop and then to leave. This might not be the experience for you because they make the sandals here. I now own a purse and two pairs of sandals from here. The first pair (No 13 Hermes) I have had since 2015 and they are as good as ever. My newest pair (No 11 Doric) are everyday sandals so I am excited to see how they hold up. So far so good. I will go to the Sandal Maker as often as I can to get more of the Sandals.

Un travail d'amateur, prix entre 100-150 euros pour 1 sandle qui était dans sa catalogue. pas ajouté qqch personnelle mais... je trouve que c'est trop cher pour sa qualité.

Un travail d'amateur...
Les sandales ont été ajustées n'importe comment et j'ai fait l'erreur de ne les réessayer qu'une fois rentrée en France...
Les lanières n'ont pas été coupées a la même longueur, les rivets fixes n'importe comment : je ne pouvais même plus porter les sandales et ai du les faire reprendre !!! Il y a un trou dans le cuir et on va mettre un rivet décoratif pour arranger ça
C'est bien joli de vanter les visites de Sarah Jessica Parker et autre célébrité mais 80€ pour ça... Gardez votre argent et mettez le ailleurs !

Je voulais des sandales faites en Grèce et de manière artisanales à un prix correcte.
Je lorgnais sur des paires depuis un moment (il est facile d'avoir un fascicule gentiment donné dans la boutique) et finalement à mon dernier séjour je m'en suis achetée une paire.
Le gérant était là, mais à son bureau. C'est un de ces employé qui a été cherché mes sandales et qui a fait l'ajustement.
Les tarifs des modèles préfaits sont corrects (50€ pour ma paire). Le sur-mesure est tout de suite plus cher (ça double, même plus).
Certains modèles sont associés à des stars et portent leurs nom (Jacqueline Onassis, Sophia Loren, Maria Callas et d'autres ....)

Même si vous n'achetez pas, n'hésitez pas à rentrer. On ne nous force pas la main pour acheter.

J'ai acheté ma paire : ma pointure habituelle ne m'allait pas , j'ai pris la taille au dessous. La lanière a été ajustée à ma taille et elles sont parfaites.

This shop is well-known because of its' famous clients. But, to my opinion, the prices are extremely high comparing with the very good quality leather sandals produced in Bodrum, Turkey.

Dear Yavouz, I am afraid you are comparing sandal prices in two completely different worlds, namely: 1) EUROPE, with its high living expenses, owing partly to its very strict laws, rules and regulations, regarding (what is considered as) top standards, high quality and environmental safety. and: 2) TURKEY, which is still a more easy-going, relaxed and flexible economy, the way Greece was about forty years ago and which of course is something that most Greeks miss so much and wish they still enjoyed. The tanning methods, for example, in Europe are considered to be very environmentally-friendly, but they are also much costlier. “Shortcuts” are not allowed. You cannot use chemicals that are viewed by European authorities as environmentally-unfriendly. All leathers must be vegetable tanned. Also, our prices are a bit higher, not only because of our high quality leathers, but also, because of the amount of time we spend, adjusting each pair to each customer’s feet. This is something that low-price or even expensive sandal outlets do not do, here in Europe -with the exception of a few places that offer sandals much, much pricier than ours.

I wanted sandals as a souvenir from Athens

I went to this shop while out wandering Athens. I had read about it and thought this was a perfect thing for me.

I was approached when I entered the store and it was pretty crowded. I tried a pair on that was rubbing on my foot. The guy said they could widen the shoe but that wouldn’t solve the issue, as widening it would only make it not fit elsewhere.

When I asked for a different style, it took a while and then the guy handed me a size at least 2 sizes too big. At that point I couldn’t get someone to help and exchange them for the right size.

I put my shoes back on and left. I easily found other souvenirs to purchase on my trip.

Dear MN2CA Given the fact that your feet were rather wide, we tried our best to show you how our models would look on you, in case you decided to have sandals made completely to measure, by having us trace your feet and getting all the appropriate measurements. So, we let you try on a few different sandal styles, in sizes closer to the width of your feet. Your feet were wider than the average person, who wears the same (lengthwise) size as you do, so, all the sandals in your size (lengthwise) were way too narrow for you. Your feet, if I remember well, were about two centimeters wider, on either side, when you tried to put on a pair in your size. So, we offered to make you a special order by tracing your feet, but I think you did not have the patience to wait for your turn (there were other customers ahead of you) and you left.

A highlight!

I only just found out about this shop shortly before we left for Athens but I was determined to go. I wanted an affordable "souvenir" to bring home. For 65 euro I got a semi-custom pair of sandals that I love. The shop is very small but they are moving to a larger space nearer the Acropolis. The first time we tried to find the shop we got lost and it wouldn't have mattered anyway because they are closed on Sundays. I wish we had gone there when we first got to Athens because with a week lead time I might have been able to get my sandals more personalized. (And maybe more than one pair.)

So we made our way to the shop and were handed a catalog that listed the available styles which you choose from and give your size. A worker comes back with a pair of soles that will match that design and make some measurements. I tried a few pairs and then remembered that we had walked by the new shop which already has a window display so I ended up with a pair that I had never even considered. I went with the "Jeremy Irons" because I asked if a flower decoration could be added to the toe loops and was told yes. I had seen the flowers in the other shop window. We were told to return the next day at noon.

Here's where it got a little disappointing. We arrived a little before noon and the security gate was down with a sign that read the store was too crowded and to come back at 1 PM. I think appointments should be honored.

We finally got into the store and a woman was trying to negotiate to get her sandals done that day after being told they would take a month. She wanted the work on everyone else's sandals to stop because she was leaving Athens that day. Too bad sister! Everyone has to wait their turn and I was glad my sandals weren't going to be further delayed. After what seemed like forever my sandals were brought out and they looked exactly the same as they had the day before meaning the straps weren't attached. It was still just the sole. Sad face again. Measurements taken, straps glued. Another fitting for comfort and to measure the toe loop for flower placement. After that everything was nailed into the soles and I was good to go. Big smile! I know others have complained about the nails, the comfort, whatever. Mine are perfect.

I love these sandals. They are really a unique and personal item from our trip. I want more! Well done!
