We visited the Solway Aviation Museum during a short stay in Carlisle and were very sad to have left it so late in the day as it’s a brilliant place and has so much to see and learn about. We did the tour of the Vulcan Bomber which was incredible - the friendly and knowledgeable staff told us all about its history and let us sit inside. We will definitely be visiting again in the future, and arriving earlier!

Had decided to take a wee drive down to the museum on Sunday past. Long drive down the motorway just for a day trip. Well worth the visit. Will be back for another visit soon, next time we will stay overnight Lol.
The entry fee was very reasonable, as this helps keep the museum and the exhibits in operation. Or should I say, keeping the exhibits in tip top condition. I enjoyed every bit of the aircrafts on the visit. Straight forward journey from Scotland.

A brilliant place with lots to see for everyone both inside and outside. It was a lovely day so we took advantage bringing a picnic,plenty of benches to sit at. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit,the place is run by volunteers who are all so knowledgeable and make the place extra special. It was amazing to be able to climb inside the Vulcan and imagine the experience of the crew,hard to believe to space for the two pilots and three crew.

Loved the aircraft outside especially the Vulcan. Great displays inside and really well documented. Lots of the aircraft have cockpit access as well including the Vulcan.
Nice to meet Spiney Norman looking all spruced up after seeing him bought from Mathewsons on Bangers and Cash.
Had a personal interest to visit as well, as my dad had been stationed at Crosby On Eden in 1945.

Fantastic place, with lots to see including the amazing Vulcan. Lovely staff / volunteers.
Getting to talk with Stephanie and Frank with the outstanding knowledge and information about many aspects of the Vulcan and other snippets was Lovely as you can tell all the staff / volunteers are passionate. Would recommend a visit to anyone as it truly is remarkable.

We travelled down from Falkirk to visit the museum, I've been a few times already, and love the place, staff and exhibits, in fact, if it was closer, I would apply to be a volunteer.
Me the wife and Corey and Brodey our two grandsons had a ball, they loved it all, the museum and the shop are excellent, prices in the shop are superb. We bought lots of stuff, including the boys helmets, which they wore for the rest of the day, and the next and the next..
The staff are amazing, so friendly and helpful, in fact my wife had to come find me and drag me away from a couple of the guys, who obviously love what they do, it got to me too.
The Vulcan tour is well worth the time, and should be done, it's so interesting.
All in all a fantastic museum, run and looked after by a bunch of fantastic volunteers, we will be back down next month to visit again, and hopefully donate one or two things...:-)

As part of an organised trip we visited. I was surprised just how much this small aviation museum actually has to offer. Its no Duxford in terms of scale but its definitely worth a visit to any aviation fans and tourists in the area.
Great to see the F4 Phantom. The Jaguars another childhood favourite.
But the jewel in the crown of the aircraft exhibits has to be the Vulcan. Fantastic that they offer an opportunity to visit the flight deck too.
Ran out of time to look at all the indoor exhibits.
Staff were very friendly, welcoming and informative.
Could easily have spent a full half day rather than just a couple of hours. If your someone that likes to digest everything the museum has to offer then dedicate a full day to your visit.
Id happily visit again.

The museum was amazing such a massive amount of information available. The volunteers know their stuff. We'll worth a visit.

This place is hard to find but very much worth the effort. The brown sign seems to have disappeared. Very friendly and knowledgeable volunteers. All displays very clean and fresh smelling - not fusty which can sometimes happen in small museums. Very worth a visit if aeroplanes are your thing.

What a fantastic gem ! This museum is very well organised and run by passionate volunteers. The aircraft are varied and very interesting with the star of the show being a Vulcan bomber. Guided talks for the Vulcan are well worth doing. Brilliant information and a chance to sit inside this awesome aircraft. Thank you to everyone at the museum. What a great experience 👍🙂

Is there public transportation from the Carlisle city center to Solway?
Sorry not at the moment but as passenger flights resume on the 4th July 2019 let’s hope a bus service will come to the museum.

Gordon where on the main road will you be starting from?
If your getting dropped off at the airport junction follow the brown signs which will take you towards Irthington turn left at the next brown sign and keep the runway on your left.
The museum is on the right of the airport entrance in the camouflage building we're open Friday, Saturday, Sunday and bank holiday Monday.
